Well, here we are again! You may have noticed that I’m reporting to you from a new URL (https://bradfonseca.com/) There is a mildly interesting story related to this change that I thought I would share here. I recently read an article on John Scalzi’s blog called “20 Years of Scalzi.com”. In it, there is a quote that stuck with me:
Even if you have a large following elsewhere, you should always have a place to call your own, that you are in control of, not someone else. So when Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and Snapchat are dead and buried — and they will be — people can still find you. And email you! There’s something to be said for having the same email address for 20 years.
I’ve been toying with the idea of getting my own domain and moving my blog over to it. WordPress works equally well if they host it or if you self-host so that wasn’t an issue. Initially, I thought I would just purchase the domain and set-up a redirect to the old blog. Then, after I spoke with my hosting provider about my options, I decided it would be worth it to just take the plunge.
I’ve fiddled with my org2blog settings; hopefully, this post will work the way I hope it will.
Look to this space for more blofgging. I hope to get more short writing in the vein of the themes of this blog (e.g. emacs, technology, a smattering of other thoughts, etc.) on a more regular basis.
